* STREET FOOD DOUBLE WHAMMY
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 Dear Thirsters Worldwide: Happy Equinox! The attached double whammy will be of interest to many of you. Both whammies were produced for the web edition of Gourmet Magazine. The author of the first whammy is Thirster in New York MARISA ROBERTSON-TEXTOR, interculturalist, Russianist, current Research Chief of Gourmet Magazine, and frequent writer for that journal. Marisa (a 1992 graduate of Portland’s Lincoln High) recently visited Portland and did some intensive fieldwork on Portland’s vibrant “street food” scene. The second whammy is also by Marisa. It is a telephone interview she recently conducted, also about street food, with Thirster in Residence IRENE TINKER, political scientist and internationally renowned authority on women in development. Irene has done distinguished research on street food in many megapolises in the developing areas. Enjoy! And thanks, Irene and Marisa! Best, Bob ##################################### BY MARISA ROBERTSON-TEXTOR Hi all, Looking for more street-food coverage? Today we have a double helping: A round-up of eight fantastic street-food venues in Portland, Oregon (warning: don't read this hungry) and an interview with political scientist Irene Tinker, the doyenne of street-food studies. If you have even the slightest interest in street food, urbanization, sustainability, gender roles, local government, and/or the delights and perils of eating abroad, you'll be fascinated by what Irene has to say regarding all of the above. http://www.gourmet.com/food/2009/09/irene-tinker-Q-A http://www.gourmet.com/restaurants/2...nd-street-food Marisa |
