* HAPPY GROUNDHOG’S DAY!
Saturday, February 2, 2008
Dear Thirsters:
The following brief message, intended as humor but darkly serious in its broader historic implications, has been received from Thirster in Denver TIM WILLINK, entrepreneur, and also from Thirster in San Francisco SUZY ROFF, via her brother, ELLIOTT TROMMALD, historian.
Both of these Thirsters noted that Mr. Bush’s final (Gott sei Dank) State of the Union address occurred just before Groundhog’s Day, which is today.
For non-American Thirsters not familiar with the American custom of Groundhog’s Day, go to: www.groundhog.org/ .
Thanks, Suzy and Tim!
Best,
Bob

THE MESSAGE:
This year Groundhog’s Day and the State of the Union occurred on almost the same day. In an ironic juxtaposition of events, one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, and the other involves a GROUNDHOG!
